In September 1786 Andreas Koesler, a painter of miniatures and enamel started teaching at the Pforzheim Drawing School ( Pforzheimer Zeichenschule) then also known as the Academy. This school had been founded shortly before and can be considered to be the first vocational school or technical college for jewellery and watchmaking.
During the following 225 years it was developed into a school offering a wide range of different specialized classes and courses within the field mentioned above.
Training is determined by combining tradition, modern technology and up-to-date design.
The German Dual System of Job Education consists of practical training on the job with an employer plus classes at a vocational school.
